What is it?

BEAT IT has been designed by Australian Diabetes Council’s Accredited Exercise Physiologists, Credentialed Diabetes Educators and Accredited Practicing Dietitians and will be run by Accredited BEAT IT Trainers in your local area.

BEAT IT is a 12 week physical activity and lifestyle education program designed to provide people with, or at risk of diabetes and other chronic lifestyle related diseases, with the opportunity to participate in a group-based physical activity program.

BEAT IT is a moderate intensity, graded exercise program built around the proven benefits of aerobic and resistance activities.  The aim of the program is to assist people to become familiar with different forms of exercise, teach them how to increase exercise levels in a safe and durable manner and allows them to improve their confidence to exercise in a safe, supportive and non threatening environment. There is also a focus on how to maintain exercise routines following completion of the program.

What are the details?

BEAT IT sessions are run twice weekly for 1 hour and include fortnightly lifestyle education sessions. While BEAT IT is delivered as a group based program, individual initial consults are conducted and programs are prescribed on an individual basis, ensuring participants meet their desired goals and work at a safe and comfortable level.

The program runs for 12 weeks (24 x 1 hour sessions total)

Initial one-on-one assessments are completed up until the start of the 12 week program on Monday 19th September 2011. Clients will see Accredited Exercise Physiologist Michael (30mins) and Accredited practising Dietitian Maddy (30mins)

What are the costs?

The first 4 weeks costs $160 (most claimable through Medicare - the gap payment is less than $7 per week).
The final 8 weeks costs $30 per week (may be claimable with your health fund)
